  • 03/11/20SAS Daily Update 3/11

    Dear SAS Families,

We are continuing to monitor the Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation carefully and are meeting daily to assess the situation and evaluate and update our response.

A reminder that students who are ill with a fever should not, under any circumstances, come to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without medication. We continue to see sick students come to school- this puts the rest of the school community at risk.

Out of an abundance of caution:

    • All field trips have been suspended until further notice.

    • Any parent meetings are cancelled. Information will be communicated via email.

    • Tours and shadow days for prospective students are suspended until further notice.

    • Band and public speaking class are cancelled, due to having instructors that work in many schools; we are trying to minimize any exposure to our students and staff.

    • Our North Region Professional Day scheduled for next Friday has been cancelled, as we did not feel it was prudent to gather 300+ educators when experts recommend social distancing.  Currently, our SAS faculty is still planning to meet for professional development here in our building.  It remains a day of no school for students.

    • Our cleaning company is putting in extra hours this week to do intensive cleaning of all surfaces and high contact areas- bathrooms, classrooms, desks, offices, door handles, cafeteria spaces.  This work will continue throughout the week, and over this coming weekend.

    • Classrooms are stocked with sanitizing supplies.

    • We are awaiting word from the MIAA concerning spring sports. As of now, the tryouts that are scheduled for next week are on as scheduled.

    • Teachers have been asked to gather work so that instruction and learning can take place if we were to be forced to close the school.  There are no plans in place to do this, but we feel it is best to be prepared in case we are in a position to need to do so.

We can confidently state that we have no cases of Coronavirus in our school or in our families. We ask everyone to please keep us informed of any information you may have to help keep our students and staff safe.

It is important that we avoid rumors at this time, and gather facts from news and government agencies. It is also important to avoid speculating about the health of others and to not stigmatize those who become ill or take precautions that we may view as overly cautious.  We will keep you informed and will have no tolerance for rumors and stigmatizing.

Please know that we are working to keep students and staff safe. We ask for your cooperation and thank you for your patience as we work through this rapidly changing situation together.
