VOLLEYBALL TEAM HONORED WITH TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD
The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association recently announced that the Arlington Catholic High School Volleyball team was among hundreds of collegiate and high school volleyball teams nationwide to have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The team's cumulative GPA was 4.1746.
“Academic achievement does not happen by accident,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “I’m so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority.”
The ACHS volleyball team also earned an additional Honor Roll distinction. The Honor Roll represents the top 20% of team GPAs in each division. The Cougars were the only Catholic high school volleyball team and among only 12 Massachusetts high schools to receive this award. The student-athletes to achieve this impressive honor are Natalie Dougherty, Kara MacDonald, Margaret Milne, Rachel Murhy, Alison O’Keefe, Danielle Tully, Nora Svendsen, Caitlin Cinella, Mackenzie Williams, Michelle Costa, Kathryn Riley, and Addison O’Donovan.
“We are beyond proud of these young women for their hard work and dedication both inside the classroom and on the volleyball court. They exemplify what it means to be an AC Cougar,” said Dan Shine, Athletic Director.
