Arlington Catholic High School is offering Summer Session for 2019

Update:  Summer Sessions for 2019 will not be running this summer. 


AC Summer Session provides opportunities for 6th through 9th grade students to keep their minds active through the summer months with engaging and exciting workshops!   Sharpen your research and math skills!  AC Summer Session offers a variety of programs, designed by experienced educators, to engage, excite, and challenge students for educational success.
 

Cost: $300 per session and per child, if you sign up for 2 sessions the third session is $225

All classes run from 8:30am-12pm with a 15 minute snack break at 10:15am


Open to students entering 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade.  All sessions have limited availability, Apply today!

Session 1 - July 8-12

High School Placement Test - HSPT Prep

This weeklong course will prepare students for the High School Placement Test and will be taught by experienced instructors of both Math and English. These instructors will explain the types of questions asked on the HSPT, introduce students to test taking strategies, and present students with practice questions for study. Students can expect to leave the session with confidence that they will perform to their full potential on the HSPT.

 

The High School Math You Need

The course is designed for students of all abilities who want to get ready for high school level math!  Students will review basic arithmetic concepts such as a numberline, order of operations, fractions, decimals, and percentages.  The course will then move on to algebraic equations, and geometry.

 

Preparing to be a Student Athlete

This week long course will look at all aspects of becoming a successful student athlete.  The class will look specifically on managing school and athletic schedules during the school year and specifically what it takes to be a varsity athlete with the potential to be an athlete at the collegiate level.  In addition to the educational and athletic pieces, the class will also focus on mental preparation for games and how to perform in pressure situations.

Session 2 - July 15-19

Introduction to Computer Coding

This course is designed for students interested in learning how to code. We’ll start with the basics, so all levels are welcome! Over the course of a week we’ll lay the foundations for fun and interactive projects like writing your own Mad Libs game and learning how to draw graphics using a programming language called Java. The course is taught by our director of technology and a rising senior at Arlington Catholic High School, who also founded AC Codes, the school’s coding club.

 

Introduction to Mandarin

This week long course will focus on developing conversational skills, with an emphasis on daily topics. Besides facilitating oral proficiency, the instructor will also introduce the cultural aspects that play an essential role in understanding the language.

History and Research Strategies for the Modern Student

Interested in History? Want to be ready for that first research paper? Nervous about getting sources for that first high school lab report? Want to interact with the ever changing world around you in a thoughtful, intelligent way?  If so, this history and research class is for you! Methods of research, note taking, writing styles, and source examining will be focused on in a class that allows students to explore a variety of historical topics. The subject of history itself will allow students to look at everything from mythology to battle plans, famous leaders to cultural movements, Ancient Greece to Modern History, and everything in between!
